Credit Report Overview
Credit Report Variables
A credit report is the document detailing what information is listed on file at the credit bureaus about you and your credit history. The credit report contains a variety of information such as your name, other names you might be known as, your address, your birth date, and a variety of other information such as your employer and past employers. You can view an example credit report to get a better feel for the information it contains.
Credit Report Management
Your credit report is an important document used to determine how credit-worthy you are in the eyes of lenders. Since the credit report is used to make key lending decisions, it is important for you to ensure that the information it contains is accurate. The three credit bureaus make best efforts to ensure the data about you is accurate, but sometimes things need to be corrected. The best way to do this is to order copies of your credit reports and notify the credit bureaus if a change needs to be made. Once you have done this, you then will want to monitor your credit report regularly and potentially sign up for a monitoring service that can alert you whenever a change is made to your credit report.
